Grand Canyon Water Park in Chiang Mai!
Canyon water park caters to all ages & offers endless hours of fun & adventure!
There Are Two Grand Canyon’s in Chiang Mai
It’s important to know that there are two Grand canyon’s in Chiang Mai that are located right beside each other. The first one you’ll probably see is the original Grand Canyon (what everybody swam in before the floating obstacle water park was built). The Grand Canyon Water park is situated right next to it, so you have two choices of where to go swimming for the day.
The Original Grand Canyon in Chiang Mai
The original Grand Canyon is an old quarry containing water approximately 50 meters deep. It was often occupied by locals in need of a refreshing swim in the Chiang Mai heat and a few daring cliff jumps into the water. As this natural swimming attraction gained popularity, extra facilities and services were on offer and admission charges were in effect.
They had built a café/restaurant on the premises and offered services from small fruit and Som Tam (papaya salad) stalls. There was a small Bathing suit shop you could purchase swimwear from and other necessities like flip flops. You could literally arrive unprepared and be able to purchase everything you needed at excellent prices.
Can I Jump From The Cliff?
Scattered, Floating Bamboo rafts were anchored on the water with rope for places to rest. Climbing nets and ropes were fastened to the tops of the cliffs to assist with returning back to the top after jumping into the water; distances ranging between 3 and 16 meters! A brought a friend of mine here who I used to Dental nurse with in Australia, and I couldn’t believe she had the guts to jump the furthest distance! Looking down, all I saw was my life flash before my eyes. I opted for the 10 meter instead. I just wasn’t prepared to test my fate that day!
Spending a day at the Grand Canyon was so entertaining; you could be sure to spend a chunk of your time distracted by the ‘jumpers’ fighting with their fears. They’d be taking steps to the end of the cliff, their friends cheering them on, and then they’d back out at the very last second. It was a repetitive pattern that sometimes took up to 30 mins before they either gave up on themselves or finally took the plunge! These jumpers often had the undivided attention from a large audience! we’d all scream out to cheer them on end encourage them.
Can I Jump With My GoPro?
I’ve witnessed a few Gopros go missing in those waters too. I watched a girl borrow her friend’s camera and lost it at the end of her jump. All of her friend’s Chiang Mai memories up to that point were all gone! Make sure you have a buoyancy attachment for your camera! Those days were so great; playing all day & meeting tourists from around the world. I brought my twin sister and my niece to the Grand Canyon during their Thailand holiday, and my niece managed to capture this amazingly rare footage of a whole group, simultaneously jumping off of the cliff! Those were the good ‘ol days.
What can I do at the Grand Canyon?
The original Grand Canyon has a climbing wall, zipline, kayaks, paddle boats, spinning boat, floating volleyball, blop pillow jumping, giant spin ball and tubes. Lifeguards supervise the Canyon and the restaurant is still there. There is only one designated jumping spot and life jackets are to be worn at all times. This Grand Canyon is cheaper than the water park next door, costing 150 baht and we occasionally still go there to swim. Food and drinks are not permitted to be brought into the premises.

What to do at the Grand Canyon Water Park:
Inflatable Obstacle Course
This water park is equipped with a giant inflatable obstacle course/ playground with sprinklers keeping it cool and wet. You can slide down, climb, jump on trampolines and crawl your way through. It will test your strength, balance and skills, so be prepared to slip and fall frequently! Oh, and not to forget mentioning that all of your muscles will get a great workout, so you may be a little on the sore side for a couple of days afterward.
Where Can I Jump from and What Can I Climb?
The water park also has a separate station you can climb with a water slide and a trampoline for you to scale up and jump off of into the water, and it’s so much fun! There are two areas to jump off of the cliff at 10 meters and It felt like 1km looking down from there before I jumped! There are two incredibly steep slides mounted on the side of the cliff and I almost died of laughter watching my husband have his turn on there. He slid down so fast, he shot out of there like a bat out of hell! I don’t know what’s funnier when watching the video- Apple shooting out of the water slide, or me in fits of laughter! All of this is in my Youtube video!
Is There a Kid’s Pool?
Yes! there is a kid’s play area separate to the obstacle course and a little further up, but you will see it on arrival. It’s really cool, fitted with a dinosaur mountain, small wading pools, mini waterfall, jungle gyms, water slides and inflatables. This water is clear pool water, unlike the Canyon water. There is also a large, sheltered sitting and dining area so that you can watch your kids play and there are lifeguards on standby. Again, this is all in my You Tube video so you can know what to expect when you come here.
Is There Food at the Grand Canyon Water Park?
There sure is! There is a food court serving both western and Thai cuisines with a both an indoor and sheltered outdoor eating area (and it’s so pretty!) There is also a Grill restaurant providing western & Thai food, and Caramelo Café serving drinks. Korean Bingsu, bakery products and snacks.
